On October 16, participants in the “Leaders for Nature” Summit held in Yerevan adopted a declaration reaffirming their commitment to halting biodiversity loss and initiating recovery by 2030.

In the document entitled “Yerevan Declaration: Actions for Nature,” heads of state and government emphasized that international efforts to protect nature remain insufficient and that faster, more decisive action is needed.

Under the declaration, participants pledged to strengthen the protection and restoration of natural ecosystems, integrate environmental issues more broadly into public policy, and increase public and private funding for biodiversity conservation.

The document reaffirms the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework: to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030 and achieve coexistence in harmony with nature by 2050.

Participants in the summit called for these commitments to be translated into concrete actions during COP17.

The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity is one of the three global environmental conventions. It coordinates the international community’s efforts to maintain environmental sustainability, conserve and restore biological diversity, and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources.

Conferences of the parties are held every two years.

It should be recalled that the COP17 event is taking place in Yerevan from October 17 to 30, 2026.
